READER ALERT: HERE WE GO AGAIN
Special Edition coming Sunday on Colombia's presidential runoff
Colombians return to the polls on Sunday to choose between conservative outsider Abelardo de la Espriella and leftist Senator Ivan Cepeda in the second round of the country’s presidential election. Polls indicate that Abelardo has held onto his first round lead against Cepeda, and has consolidated the coastal and interior conservative votes while cutting into other regions and demographics on the strength of the “anti-vote” against the leftist project that Cepeda intends to lead and disaffection with the status quo.
It is the last presidential race in Latin America until Brazil’s first round vote in early October. I will be publishing a special edition on Sunday after the results are clear to not only give a hot take on what it means but attempt to sum up where we are more broadly amidst the region’s democracies — current and hopefully future — transition into a new political, diplomatic and economic era.
See you back here on Sunday night!
